BEATS, RHYMES, AND CUTS FROM L.A.

ABOUT US

Los Angeles-based Dilated Peoples have performed amazing feats on the thin line between Hip Hop’s underground and mainstream. Known for their live shows on the international club and festival circuits, they’re also revered for classic records like “Worst Comes To Worst” (featuring the late, great Guru of Gang Starr), “Back Again” and “This Way.”

Founding members Rakaa (Iriscience) and Evidence added DJ Babu of the World Famous Beat Junkies in 1998, which helped them develop a signature sound and carve out their own lane. Multiple tours and a string of successful 12” singles on Oakland’s ABB Records led to a deal with Capitol Records/EMI for their Expansion Team imprint, yielding their first four albums: The Platform (2000), Expansion Team (2001), Neighborhood Watch (2004) and 20/20 (2006). Each member then pursued solo projects, often collaborating with one another, before reuniting for the critically acclaimed Directors of Photography (2014, Expansion Team/Rhymesayers).

All movements begin underground. Dilated Peoples have maintained their roots while extending their branches with classic material, solo and crew projects like Evidence’s Bigger Picture Recordings label and DJ Babu and Rakaa’s Expansion Team Soundsystem collaboration, and explosive live shows that showcase the rhythm and sound of the culture.
